Winds of Adversity & Opposition Can Work For You– part one

      BY REV. LIZ HINZIE

      · Adversity

Did you know that the CENTER VERSE of the Bible is Psm. 118: 8 which says, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man”. This is NOT a coincidence that this is the center verse of the entire bible. All thru the Psm., King David is constantly telling the Lord, just how much he trusts God in everything.

I have been studying scriptures and reading a couple books these last couple months, as the Holy Spirit has led me to do, SO THAT, I will be taught of HIM. He led me to read King David’s words in, Psm. 86:11 where King David cries out to God and says, “Teach me your ways, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, so that I may fear your name.” These scriptures have become my own motto for days now. “Lord, please teach me YOUR WAYS!” And David goes on to say, in vs. 7, “In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou will answer me.” These are words of confidence in the Lord. For King David’s life was always in the winds of adversity.

From the book, Love like you’ve never been hurt, by Jentezen Franklin, I have come to understand how God will use our adversities and oppositions, to our advantage. In his book, he gives this illustration of “Winds of Adversity” as follows:

“Airplanes take off into a headwind because it gets them off the ground quickly. The resistance gives them lift. Opposition can do the same thing to you. Someone hurting you, betraying you or talking bad about you, can bring something good. It can take you higher. Right before God took Elijah up to heaven, He sent a whirlwind. It came not to tear the prophet down but to take him up. The strong winds of adversity will lift you up not destroy you. They will use the worst things done to you to bring out the best in you. One of the principals of forgiveness here is that the best in us can only be brought out by the worst done to us. We don’t like what happened to us, it broke our hearts. But the truth is that sometimes the best in us will never be released until the worst has been done to us. And it usually will be done by people whom you have loved, trusted and helped the most. God does not intend for the painful experiences in our lives to destroy us.”

Jentzen is telling us that, all these things that come against us, hurt us, devastate us, are never meant to destroy us, but rather to use the wings of adversities to lift us higher, esp. if we will choose to forgive the worst done to us. Now what do I mean by that? It simply means, that we must believe God is for us, not against us and if we will put our confidence in Him, and trust Him to “bring all things together for our good, according to His purposes and for His Glory”, (Rom.8:28), SO THAT, he will use these adversities, these hard things, to bring us higher, to lift us up. In other words, “teach me YOUR WAYS O LORD! Fulfill your purpose for my life”.

God tells us in Isaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” And he reaffirms this again in Prov. 3: 5-7-8- “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes.”

In other words, God is telling his children, that if we will do life His way, and be teachable, God will turn our adversities and make good come from them. Every problem known to man, there is a solution to it in the Bible. In order for these things to bring good into our hard situations, we must forgive all others, as the Father forgives us of everything.
